LAFAM participated in and presented at the 7th World Committee of Lifelong Learning (CMAtlv.org) Conference in Alexandria, Egypt, from 7th to 9th March 2023. During the workshop on “Refugee and migrants’ health – challenges and opportunities for health education”, M. P. Farschi from LAFAMONG.org shared LAFAM’s health capacity-building experience in camps in the Iraqi Kurdish Region with other international NGOs from Poland and Mali, and representatives of the European Union Erasmus CAMPLUS project. We discussed how to create a level playing field between the local population and refugees/migrants by building common understanding and trust. Health education needs a shared understanding of each other’s language and culture.
In support of the group of hygienists, LAFAM mobilized a mobile health unit in Shariya camp. This ambulance was stationed in the Shariya camp and was available for the transport of people needing treatment to the Duhok medical facilities.
